Working together for thefire salamander
Our Mission
Salamanders are endangered.Let us help them together!
Many organizations and institutions are working on numerous individual projects for the benefit of fire salamanders, both in their natural habitat (in situ) and through the establishment of conservation breeding programs in human care (ex situ). However, to preserve the species in its genetic and ecological diversity in our region in the long term, it is essential that these conservation and research efforts are aware of each other, that their results are visibly consolidated for everyone, and that conservation breeding programs are coordinated.
Therefore, organizations and institutions were invited to a major Fire Salamander Symposium from April 17 to 19, 2024, at Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover. There, Feuersalamander.NET was founded, a network that will also serve as a central reporting, information, and coordination point for efforts concerning the protection of fire salamanders and, prospectively, alpine salamanders. Such coordination is particularly important when establishing ex situ conservation breeding programs, so that limited resources can be utilized with maximum impact for the preservation of fire salamanders in their full diversity.

Fire Salamanders in Need
An epidemic is decimating entire populations of our native fire salamander. We can save it if we intervene: through quarantine, therapy, and conservation breeding.

A Network for Fire Salamanders
Feuersalamander.NET is an alliance of zoos, universities, associations, conservation breeding projects, nature conservation authorities, and private individuals who are actively committed to the fire salamander.
